Notes from R.O.S.S. with Jon Richardson at SFBUYU

lunar plexus
solar plexus
the center changes
depending on where you are

work in slow motion
but keep moving

if you get out the way
of yourself
and allow Flow
to happen
that makes things easier

just enough tension
not more

we are learning
to be efficient

your training partner
helps you discover
where you are tense
and how to move

by compressing your structure
unbalancing you
testing your ability to move

dont try to think
about how to do it
feel what needs to move
and FLOW

Study how to move
every part of the body
independently of the rest
and how to move
the whole as one

when held or holding
move along the bones
and around the joints

when falling over
dont roll out
ease yourself down

turn on the shin
the knee
or the ankle

in
out
up
down
front
back
& sideways

your partner helps you
by providing incoming force
vectors for you to manoeuver
around

wave in
distal to proximal
periphery to core

ie. fingers wrist elbow shoulder

wave out
proximal to distal
core to periphery

ie. shoulder elbow wrist fingers

if you jump back
ot tighten up
it's easy to re-direct
and use that space
to home in on you

breathe out
work in slow motion
decrease the fear-reactivity
activation threshold

this is not fighting
it's only a drill

feel the touch
it's quicker than the eye
and tells you where
the stick is

move around its middle
or let it's middle move around you
not the ends
that's where the impact is

start to move
the part that's threatened
out the way FIRST
then the rest of the body
can also move out the way
naturally

and all kinds
of interesting thing
start to happen

you'll find you are
suddenly positioned
to excercise leverage
unbalance
overextend
discover dense spots
in your training partner

you'll discover where to compress
structure automatically
without effort or tension

don't try to apply techniques
that's where you lock down
your posture and
become vulnerable
to off-balancing
and counters

stay in contact

a small movement
at the wrist
translates into
a big movement
of the body
and viceversa

triangulate
where's the missing support point?
ok go there

find and use
natural leverage points

feel for density
stuck places where
they are not moving so well

that's where you want to push
or pull or somehow facilitate
a resumption of their movement

breathe
no I mean
breathe out
