Notes from Systema seminar with Martin Wheeler

Warm up
get ready
we're gonna study
chokes

basic anatomy
seen from the front
the neck is a triangle
the apex is the air choke
the sides are the blood chokes

you can use one or both
be careful
work slow
and feel what it feels like
to be choked

scary yes?
experience it fully
slowly
decrease your fear
reactivity
gain a survival
edge

when you see black spots
appear in your vision
you are "blacking" out
the blood is cut off
as the vision centers
in your brain
and others
shut down

it's good to study chokes
so that if you are ever in one
you wont panic

as much

relax
you have a few milliseconds
to do many things
to escape

relax

tuck your chin
look to the side
raise that shoulder
press your tongue up
into the roof of the mouth
inhale around it
pant like a dog breathes
in out in out in out

and move
escape
